Gelinas Extended

The long anticipated news of the New Jersey Devils re-signing restricted free-agent defenseman Eric Gelinas is finally over. Devils General Manager Lou Lamoriello announced early Monday Morning that they had re-tained Gelinas to a one-year, one-way  $900,000 contract.

Gelinas, 23 years young, is coming off an impressive season where he posted seven goals and 22 assists in 60 games last season as a rookie for the New Jersey Devils. With 29 points, Gelinas was tied for third among all rookie defenseman last-season and ranked sixth in Devils franchise history for points as a freshman.

"It worked out over the weekend." Lamoriello reported. "He's here and there are certainly no issues. He's just getting ready. I'm just happy to have everybody here and everybody ready. It's the first step towards getting our team together.

This coming after Gilles Lupien, the agent representing Gelinas, had suggested that blue-liner wouldn't report to camp without a contract.

Lamoriello remained optimistic that a deal would get done prior to the opening of camp.

"It's just part of the business and part of the process," the GM said. "There are certainly no issues. Every body approaches things differently, but we're delighted it's over."
