Add another
suitor to the list of potential New Jersey Devils Buyers.
According to
Devils beat reporter Tom Gulitti, the Philadelphia 76ers front office and
ownership group led by Josh Harris are reportedly interested in extending up
the New Jersey turnpike and purchasing the New Jersey Devils.
It’s unclear how
the 76ers ownership group would modify how Jeff Vanderbeek and the Devils currently
run things, but I for one would be ecstatic if Josh Harris purchased the
organization.
Harris is known
for his extremely deep pockets… hence his $280 million dollar purchase of the
76ers on July 13th, 2011. Pretentious that Harris is willing to
spend some of his money, the New Jersey Devils would likely become flexible
enough to spend the full salary cap in order to be a playoff contender year
after year.
This is very
exciting news in regards to the potential 2014 upcoming Unrestricted Free Ageents list, which is
headlined by players like Phil Kessel, The Sedin Twins, and Marian Gaborik.
Whether it’s
Josh Harris or attorney Andrew Barroway, regardless of which group purchases
the New Jersey Devils, the team would remain in Newark and play at the Prudential
Center for years to come.
Stay tuned.
