Mock Draft For The Jets and Giants

With the NFL Draft quickly approaching, the Jets and Giants both have opportunity to build up their rosters in they're pushes to get back to the playoffs, both have plenty of needs to address and it will be interesting to see what both teams do. Here is my mock draft for both teams and how things will fall.

New York Giants: 1st Round 12 overall: Taylor Lewan OT Michigan. Much of Eli Mannings struggles last year came because of a poor offensive line, Taylor Lewan is a nasty Offensive Lineman, and can become a solid long term leader for the Giants down the road, and fill the hole the Giants have yet to address this off-season on the Offensive Line, this isn't the sexiest pick that fans want, but it is one that is necessary if fans wanna see a better Eli Manning. The Giants allowed a league high 40 in sacks allowed last season, which is why the offense had such a hard time getting going. That alone is why this is the pick the Giants have to make. Lewan can be plugged into either as a guard or tackle, so the giants have flexibility with him.

If not available- Zach Martin OT Notre Dame, Aaron Donald DT Pittsburg

New York Jets: 1st Round 18th overall: CB Darquze Dennard Michigan State, As much as it sucks to see the Jets use a first round pick on defense, when the needs are on offense, if Dennard is on the board at 18 which I believe he eventually will, the Jets must take him. Last years number 1 pick was also a corner, Dee Millner, and outside of Millner who struggled most of the year and is going to continue to be a work in progress, there is no one the Jets can really use after they cut Antonio Cromartie. It seems as if Dee Millner is the number 1 corner which should scare Jets fans unless he drastically improves from last year. Dennard is the best man to man corner in the draft and is a athletic freak, the Jets cannot play their pressure schemes without a man to man corner and that is what the Jets need. He will fit right into Rex Ryans system, and you know Rex will be banging on the table draft day for defense as he always does. Jets fans will just have to hope Dennard and Millner can grow into a deadly corner-back duo down the road and the two can produce well this season, which is certainly very possible. So unless Jets fans wanna see their already weak secondary be burned most of the season, this is the pick. As much as I would love to see the Jets take tight end Eric Ebron, the need is at corner, and take weapons on offense with their 11 other picks.

If not avalible- Eric Ebron TE North Carolina, Braden Cooks WR Oregon State

New York Giants: 2nd Round 43rd overall: Troy Niklas TE Notre Dame. The Giants still need some weapons around Eli Manning to help resurrect the offense, in the second round Troy Niklas should fall right onto the Giants laps, and they would be wise to select him. He has very long arms, a excellent blocker, very athletic, and most likely one of the best route runners in the draft. He is a very easy player to like, and would fit in right away. This would be a no brainier for the Giants, and a very safe pick. If he could add some physicality to him and add lower-body strength, he definitely could remind many Giants fans of former fan favorite Jeremy Shockey. Giants fans wouldn't mind that at all.

If not available- Kyle Van Noy OLB BYU, Jace Amero TE Texas A&M

New York Jets: 2nd Round 49th Overall: Jace Amaro TE Texas Tech. As did the Giants, I expect the Jets to take a offensive weapon here, and one I think would be perfect fit is Jace Amaro. Jace Amaro is a pure beast, he is a match-up nightmare for any linebacker or safety, and has excellent hands along with a high football IQ. His main weakness is blocking, but more and more you see teams look at the tight ends who can be a playmaker and finally give the Jets a home grown offensive talent that fans havent seen in a long time. If not avalible: Jordan Matthews WR Vanderbilt, Jimmie Ward S Northern Illinois

Rounds 3-7

Giants: 3rd: Kevin Norwood WR Alabama: Should be on the board, very safe and smart pick again for the Giants. Can make a impact next year with his ability.

4th: George Uko DT USC: Very raw player, but can make it difficult for a quarterback to have a comfortable pocket in front of him. Good potential for a 4th rounder. Gives team depth at a posistion they lack in.

5th: Crocket Gilmore TE Colorado State: Overlooked, hard worker, could be a good second tight end in this league.

6th: Anthony Steen G Alabama: More help on the offensive line

(Jets hold 10 picks past 2nd round, leauge high)
Jets: 3rd: Trent Murphy OLB Stanford: Jets need a long term answer once Calvin Pace is gone, Murphy can learn and grow into a eventual prodeuctive starter and provide depth for the Jets.

4th: Shaq Evans WR UCLA: Strong, long arms, above average speed, good hands. Needs a short term memory after a mistake and improve mental toughness.

4th:Paul Richardson WR Colorado: Very underrated, burts by defenders, which means he can get open. Undersized, must improve on few aspects. Risky pick, but one that has to be made to give depth and more talent on the offensive side of ball.

5th: Tajh Boyd QB Clemson: Wont be a surprise if Jets use a pick on day 3 on a quarterback. Succesful player in college, will have time to devolp and learn. Possible solid backup one day.

6th: Dez Southward S Wisconsion: Still need depth at safety

6th: Charles Leno OT Boise State: Could use him behind D'Brickshaw Ferguson as a long term replacement

6th: Cassius Marsh DE/OLB UCLA: More depth at the position

6th: Wesley Johnson C Idaho: Why not have someone sit behind Nick Mangold and learn.

7th: Dexter McDougle CB Maryland: Could use more depth at corner where there will be plenty of competition.

It is impossible to possibly predict what teams could do trade wise, should the Giants and Jets hold where they are, this would be successful drafts for both teams.
