As an avid Carmelo Anthony fan ever since his days under Jim Boeheim at Syracuse University, it has been a pleasure to watch him play basketball in my home town of New York City. Obviously I'd like to see Carmelo Anthony play in New York past the 2014-2015 season and maybe even retire as a New York Knick... and apparently so does the New York Knicks front office... (at least this week)
After weeks of speculation that the Knicks wouldn't be making a move before the 2014 trade deadline, the Knicks have kicked into top gear, going from scoffing at minor trade talks to entering the preliminary talks of a three-team blockbuster.
According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports, the New York Knicks are puzzled and insecure as to how the super star guard see's them and they want to make a deadline splash that will prove they are committed to Carmelo Anthony and the future of the New York Knicks.
"New York is trying to make a deal before the trade deadline to show Carmelo Anthony they're serious about improving."
While Lala Anthony has made it abundantly clear that Carmelo loves living and playing in New York and that he want's to win here too, we all know winning starts in the front office. A willingness now to get major pieces proves that if Melo re-signs with the Knicks, the team will go out and make free-agent waves in the off-season as well.
At least that's the message coming out of Madison Square Garden, and it's far from a bad one for the Knicks to be sending out.
The Knicks have been linked to Jeff Teague, Kyle Lowry, Andre Miller all week and it's also been reported that the Knicks are making a last ditch attempt at pulling off a trade with their rival Celtics for Rajon Rondo.
Stay tuned.
