Though he was opposing the New York Rangers last night, San Jose Sharks rookie Tomas Hertl put on a show worthy enough to shine on Broadway.
The 19 year old Czech Republic Native tied a San Jose franchise record of four goals in a single game in last nights 9-2 rout over the 'Broadway Blueshirts'. A record previously set by Owen Nolan in 1995 against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. In my eyes, what made Hertl's four goal accomplishment a little better than Nolans is the fact that this happened in only Hertl's third career NHL game... or maybe just because he went in between the legs and bar down over Marty Biron's shoulder to notch his fourth of the night.
"This was special", said Sharks captain Joe Thornton of his line mates star studded performance. "You don't see that very often."
As a matter of fact, Hertl, at 19 years 330 days, became the youngest player to score four goals in a game since Jimmy Carson (19 years, 254 days) of the Los Angeles Kings on March 30, 1988.
"This is a dream. It's crazy, four goals," Hertl said. "In the Czech league I never had three. And four in the NHL, it's crazy."
Here's something else for crazy.
For the time being, (and it may not last long) Tomas Hertl is the NHL Leader in Goals with 6 in three games. Isn't that something for a 19 year old?
Wow.
Take about some major Hertl power eh?
