According to WFAN and CBSSports.com's John Heyman, the New York Mets have reportedly agreed to terms with Japanese Born and former Boston Red Sox free agent pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka, who was released upon his request by the Cleveland Indians earlier this week.
Heyman also reports that once the deal in finalized, Matsuzaka, who is still only 32 years of age, is expected to be on the Mets Major League Roster.
In my opinion the Mets signing of Matsuzaka is a very smart move. The New York Mets starting rotation is on the verge of breakdown, simply because Matt Harvey and Zach Wheeler will be limited in September and because Jeremy Hefner (Tommy John) and Jenrry Mejia (bone spurs) were both placed on the DL this month. A young arm who can eat innings is exactly what the Mets need to get them through the last month of baseball before their highly anticipated off season begins.
