Moneypuck

The New Jersey Devils made waves among the statistician community Thursday, and not because of any player personnel decision.

Lou Lamoriello has hired- or is close to finalizing the hiring of statistic guru, ex- professional poker player, and former Edmonton Oiler hockey blogger Sunny Mehta to be the teams Director of Hockey Analytics.

Personally, I believe analytics does indeed have a spot in ice hockey, but only if used the right way, and as a Devil fan, Im intrigued by the decision to bring Mehta on board. In a league where teams are constantly looking for a competitive advantage, I think this is a good gamble for the New Jersey Devils.

It'll be interesting to see how much power Mehta will have going forward and what moves the NJ Devils will make this off-season with him in the fold.

Step aside Billy Beane... it's time for Moneypuck
