Patrick Kane Scores Twice in Hawks Win After Grandfather's Death

New York native Patrick Kane had every reason not to play Monday night against the Los Angeles Kings.

Just hours before the start of the Blackhawk's 5-3 win over the Kings, Kane learned that his grandfather, Donald Kane, had passed away.

As difficult as it was for Patrick Kane to play, he brought his heavy heart with him on the ice and put on an inspired performance, scoring two goals and assisting on another goal to lead the Hawks to their third win over the Kings this season.

After being swarmed by members of the media after the game, Patrick Kane admitted that it was difficult playing knowing in the back of his mind that the man who had played such an important role in his life was gone.

"It was a tough day overall. He was one of my great friends growing up. It's just a really sad, sad day," said Patrick Kane. "It was important to get the win, but anytime you have someone take away from you, who's close to you, who means so much, it's tough to get ready for the game."

After scoring his first goal of the game on the power play Kane pointed his finger to the heavens in tribute to his grandfather.
