From Hero to Zhero

After the departure of Kovalchuk from the New Jersey Devils to the Kontinental Hockey League of Russia, my hatred for the KHL soared astronomically...  and that's putting it nicely.

Now it's time to have some fun and open up the world to a whirlwind of embarrassment surrounding the rivaled league.

Last week Nikolai Zherdev inked a one-year contract with the HC Lev Praha of the KHL. In lieu of his brand-new contract, Zherdev may have gone a little to overboard with the Russian Vodka.

According to vestri.ru, Russian news broadcast revealed that Zherdev crashed his brand new $300,000 Bentley moments after getting into a “bar fight” in a Moscow hotel bar, which also resulted in the loss his passport. As if that wasn’t enough, locals then reportedly filled the outside of Zherdev’s Bentley with vulgar obscenities due to his embarrassing behavior.

Later reports also say that Zherdev’s wife, Evgeniya is also believed to be filing for a divorce… It’s about damn time. I’m surprised she didn’t file for a divorce back in March of 2011 when police reports leaked of Zherdev attacking his wife after a quarrel in a restaurant, caused damage to her car, insulted her and threatened her with death.

It’s safe to say Nikolai Zherdev has gone from Russian hockey hero, to ZHERO.

I wonder if these recent implications will result in Zherdev being reprimanded and taken off the Russian National Roster for the Olympics in Sochi.
