Jose, Jose Jose Jose

Yesterday afternoon I wrote a blog post about Yu Darvish and the only pitchers this season to hurl 14 strike outs in a game.

Looks like I should have held off till this morning to write that post.

I want to first start off by saying the Miami Marlins shocked all of baseball when they decided to promote Jose Fernandez all the way to the bigs from Single A ball this past April. At 20 years old, most baseball analytics argued that the decision was a bit bizarre and that Fernandez would need more time to develop... but it looks like the controversial decision seems to be working out fine for the 'fightin' fish.'

Ironically, Marlins phenom Jose Fernandez threw a gem last night against the Cleveland Indians, where of course, he fanned 14 Tribe batters.

In just his first game as a 21 year old, Jose Fernandez improved his record to a respectable 8-5 on the season with a current ERA of 2.54 and 138 K's. Fernandez also became the first major league starting pitcher to strike out at least 13 batters in back to back games since Randy "The Big Unit" Johnson in '04.

Jose Fernandez's single game strikeout total tied that of Stephen Strasburg, who had 14 K's for the Nationals in 2010.

Fernandez became the first NL pitcher this year to record 14 strikeouts, as he joins the list of Yu Darvish, Anibal Sanchez, and Chris Sale.

Fernandez became the first NL rookie to strike out as many as 10 batters in at least four games in a single season since Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies in '06.

As expected, Fernandez is on an innings limit so he won't be around much longer this season, but the future of Jose Fernandez does indeed look to be very bright.
